Support the day-to-day operation of Northern LGPS’s investment activity, developing broad experience across settlements, custody, corporate actions and investment operations.

Northern LGPS is entering an important period of development, creating an FCA authorised investment management company and establishing the leadership, governance and operating capabilities required for the future.

As Senior Investment Officer, you’ll support the administration and financial servicing of UK and overseas investment assets managed for Northern’s partner funds. Working within Investment Operations, you’ll help investment activity move efficiently from trade through to settlement, maintaining accurate records, monitoring transactions and supporting the processing of corporate events.

The breadth of the role offers the opportunity to develop your knowledge across the Operations function while contributing to the controls, service standards and processes that underpin Northern’s investment activity. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues, partner funds and third-party providers, while being encouraged to identify practical improvements that strengthen operational performance and client service.

The main responsibilities of this role

You’ll support the delivery of day-to-day Investment Operations activities, ensuring transactions, records and operational processes are completed accurately and within agreed service standards.

You will:

• Support investment managers’ trading activity and the processing of investment transactions, including purchases, sales and corporate actions.
• Monitor investment transactions to ensure settlement has taken place and follow up activity where required.
• Process voluntary corporate events on the appropriate due dates and maintain accurate supporting records.
• Carry out daily cash and asset reconciliations and support the monitoring of settlement activity.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of business-as-usual activity, ensuring relevant systems are updated to support FCA and audit requirements.
• Respond to investment transaction queries from relevant parties, including partner funds and authorised regulatory bodies.
• Work within established internal controls and help ensure service level agreements, key performance indicators and key risk indicators are delivered and reported appropriately.
• Develop your knowledge across Operations, building an understanding of how different teams and activities work together across Northern LGPS.
• Build your understanding of the internal and third-party systems supporting daily and periodic operational activity.
• Ensure assigned daily and periodic tasks are completed within defined service levels, including system updates, reporting and subsequent actions or communications.
• Review existing processes and procedures, identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, controls and service to partner funds.
• Support the implementation of agreed process improvements and ensure associated procedures and process-flow documentation remain accurate and appropriately version controlled.
• Contribute to monthly performance reviews, helping ensure KPI requirements are met and KRI information is accurately compiled for review and sign-off.
• Work collaboratively across Operations during periods of increased business volumes, change programmes and activities such as new client onboarding.
• Build effective working relationships with colleagues, partner funds and external third-party service providers.
• Maintain required learning and regulatory training, including training relating to anti-money laundering requirements.

What we're looking for

You’ll bring practical knowledge of Investment Operations or Fund Accounting and an interest in developing your expertise across a broad operational remit.

Essential

You’ll have:

• Willingness to develop the skills required to operate within an FCA-regulated financial services firm.
• Knowledge of Investment Operations or Fund Accounting.

Desirable

It would be beneficial to bring:

• Experience of settlement and custody processes and associated reporting.
• Experience managing voluntary elective corporate events.
• Practical experience using general ledger systems, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Experience working within a multi-functional team environment and building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience building effective working relationships with third-party service providers such as custodians, banks and alternative investment fund managers.

Location

Bradford. This is a 12-month fixed term contract.
